Preparations are afoot to start the process of making an online green card for Chardham Yatra in Uttarakhand from April 15 this year. It is proposed to be charged Rs 600 for heavy vehicles and Rs 400 for small vehicles. Soon, its orders are expected to be issued. Applicants have to apply for this on the portal maintained by the Department of Transport.
Every year 15 to 20 thousand green cards are issued to commercial vehicles coming from outside the state during the Chardham Yatra in Uttarakhand. A green card is a card that gives information that all the relevant vehicle documents are complete, the fitness of the vehicle has also been checked and it is perfectly fit to run on mountainous routes. Its purpose is to curb the illegal operation of vehicles as well as their accidents. These cards are made at various RTO and ARTO offices during the journey so far.
