Veteran female tennis player Serena Williams of the US has decided to withdraw from the Miami Open tennis tournament due to the time she is recovering from surgery. Before Serena, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer have also announced their withdrawal from the tournament.
Serena said, 'Miami is a special tournament for me because it is my home. I am sad that I will not be able to see the fans this year, but I am looking forward to coming back soon. ' Former No. 1 Serena has been an eight-time winner of the Miami Open. She participated in the recent Australian Open where she lost to Naomi Osaka of Japan in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, former number-1 Britain's Andy Murray has received a wild card in the tournament.
Del Potro will have knee surgery: East Argentina's No. 3 tennis player Su Juan Martin del Potro said that he will have knee surgery for the fourth time in less than two years. Del Potro, 32, suffered an injury during the Queens ATP 500 tournament in London in June 2019, after which he has not been able to get on the tennis court yet. However, he said that he wants to play in this year's Tokyo Olympics, due to which he is undergoing surgery for his knee. Del Potro is currently ranked 169 in the world rankings and has had three operations. His last operation took place in Switzerland in August last year.
